The flowers and cake were a lovely idea, but Anya's right, Buffy's just seeing all the wrong in Spike/William, and not cutting him a break. The hopeful, begging notes were a nice juxtaposition to Buffy's growing anger and frustration. I can't wait to read the confrontation at Spike's house.

Author's Response: Oh good, I'm glad it wasn't too intense for you, the conflict, I don't like things to get too dark in this fic because it just wouldn't work. Yes, William is trying so hard and all his efforts have backfired for sure. He should have just taken Lorne's advice and left her alone. Buffy, on the other hand, though she's entitled to being upset is also not blameless for her share in their conflict. But naturally she's too self involved right now with her own opinions to see anything beyond what's in front of her. Well, this chapter has caused me to argue with myself since I read it last night. I am going to come out of the closet and tell everyone I am a Buffy fan!! Strangely enough (to me anyway) I seem to be in a minority there. I get the feeling most people are Spike fans and only put up with Buffy because they ship Spuffy (which is kind of strange to me since the show was about her), but I am a Buffy person. She is the character I identified with the most and she is the reason I watched the show, so it takes a lot to get me pissed off at her, but this chapter managed to do that. William/Spike should have told her that he has not slept with any other women (I think) since meeting her, that he has given up that side of Lorne's business, and about the restaurant, but she is being very unfair to him. She keeps bringing up the fact that he is/was an escort, but fails to think about the fact that she paid him to have sex with her. I for one find the "Jane" just as unsavory as the prostitute. She knows that this is not his first choice of profession, but continues to use it to judge him. Nows here is where the arguing starts...we all know Buffy is insecure about men, so when I think about that and her history, I start to feel for her again. I guess the point of this was to let you know that I am still enjoying this story and that when you can cause me to argue with myself and question my Buffy love, then you have done something special. Keep up the good work!!

Author's Response: I saved your review for last to answer cuz wow, I can't believe I managed to make you second guess yourself. I'm really not a Buffy basher per se. I like her character for the most part, but whenever she was a bitch, which was quite frequent with Spike, well, I just loved to hate her. Yup, Spike should tell her everything, but he's got 'issues' of his own he needs to deal with and what's worse is he's not even aware of them. I agree that Buffy is the pot calling the kettle black, because she paid for sex with him as well. Will she see that? Of course not, her attitude is too 'rightous' for that. She'll get hers in this fic too though, no worries. You can't be mean to a person and not have it come back around to haunt you in one form or another. Glad I could rouse some controversey in your own mind, that tells me you're really into the characters of my fic. Of course I feel bad about you're dilemma, but chuffed from an author persepctive. THanks so much for your review sweety, I adored it.
