I LOVE this fic!!!
I found it first on an awards site, or archive, and wanted to check for more on your website, not knowing how old the fic was, etc....but the link to your Tripod, I think it was, site was no good, and I was devastated, not to be able to read more of this fantastically well-written period fic!!! That is, until you began posting it on the well-known archives, such as here.
Your grasp of Victoriana is great.
At first I thought you were going to make Angel into Buffy's "confessor" (which is so tongue in cheek for him!) role, which Spike had been on the show S6 post-resurrection. I'm taking it the "The Gift" won't happen at all, and her time in 1880 replaces her time in "heaven" (well, her time w/Wm. WAS a stress-free/calling-free/responsibility-free heaven and haven to this Buffy). But after re-reading this chapter, I realize that Angel was just being his mean self in the possessive smirk he gives Spike in his typically high-schoolish manner. That Bastard! For a moment, I thought he was gonna be decent and let her honestly spill her guts to him about her 1880 experience, as she did to Spike on the show/S6, and that Angel would actually make amends and actually help her and Spike/William back get back together now in the current century.
In addition, Angel, even tho' she's washed, etc, should have been able to smell the smells of London c. 19th c., and probably Will, too; as well as have been able to smell the injury on his childe. He could have gone to him with blood to help him, but is that like Angel? I think NOT. Nor is actually HEARING WHAT Buffy is telling him when she says it was terrible. HOW long has he known her now? And he is still this dense, or using selective hearing, and even more selective compassion?
I'm off to read more chapt's....

Okay. I definitely need your address so I can come and haunt you until I read the next chapter. This was wonderful, as have all your chapters been. Sad and bittersweet, and painful, and the realisation of Willow's need for control must kill at least Dawn and Spike, if not Buffy, once she realises too. I can't wait for the next chapter.

Your comment to one reveiwer really made me think... how Buffy views the vamipre as completely separate from their human side. I understand how Buffy would separate Angel and Angelus in her mind - she wouldn't want to admit that Angel actually could have been responsible for those horrible things Angelus did. But you are right - if she admit that, then she would also be admiting that her William was a killer. How could she get past that? Wow - I have to compliment you on how multilayered your storyline is here. Kudos, and keep it up.

I like how Buffy isn't fooled by anyone she is just calling it like it is with Willow and then seeing thru Angel. This whole experience has made her stronger and clearer and I'm hoping that extends toward Spike.
Lovely as always and thought provoking I love finding a new chap. on this it gives me such a delight.

I'm so glad Buffy told Angel she was the gitl he attacked in the past. I think it's great shes not looking at him with blinfers on and I have hope for Spike. I want Buffy to see him and see he is hurt I wanna see her react to pull her out of this gloom.

Ok I wanna punch Angel but I see where he is necessary in order for Buffy and Spike to move forward but I still wanna punch him just for being there.
