I love Buffy is sort of in mourning for William I am just hoping she can still see the human sides in Spike if anything it was his loss of losing her that made him into the way he is now vs him becoming a vampire. The sad thing is here is in losing the woman he loved made him more into a monster then turning ever could.

I loved the inner struggle Spike is going through at the beginning of this and how he's trying to see it from all sides with the little bit of information he gets from Dawn. I'm sorry but I about cheered with someone finally in a fiction showing/confronting Willow about her just moving in and taking over, I am dying to see when Buffy finds out about the household accounts and Willow and Tara being there rent free and not putting anything into the household. And I suspect Dawn may have a inkling as to maybe Buffy being back in Spikes timeline given to what she has seen as his reactions to all of this. As much as Dawn wants some answers Spike is also looking for someone to convince him Buffy didn't leave him on her own and that their love in his past life was real. And I believe Spike would see Willow sold into a slave trade before he's ever let Buffy sell off his bracelet to her. It seems like Willow caused a lot of damage sending Buffy off back in time but was sitting pretty up at Buffy's place that maybe someday she might return to, seems to me Willow got more ahead in all of this while Buffy suffered. I wonder how that will be handled. I would be bothered too by a friend just moving into my mothers room I mean she's barely gotten past losing her mother.

I loved Spikes reaction to hearing about Angel being called because it's exactly how I saw it happening in my head. As well as Buffy inner turmoil in fighting herself in her own feelings and reactions to Spike and how she is fighting herself to not see him as the man she knew and loved. She is standing loyal to her love to William so it all fits exactly on what a girl would be feeling given all that has gone on. And I thought it rather sweet her picking apart her current appearance and in her head Williams voice telling her she was beautiful without things.

Betrayal is the perfect word here in how Spike would feel with someone he cared for at all in connection to do with Angel. I thought it was fantastic you had Spike feel like he was cheating on Elizabeth with his feelings for Buffy. And Buffy not being fooled by Angel and seeing thru him is at least hopeful. I felt so badly for Spike leaving one battle beat up and bloodied and then coming face to face with Angel. And being Angel and who he is you just know he's going to go after Spike for spite.

How can Buffy get past Angel trying to rape her in a ally but Spike being turned makes him no longer her William?

If Spike learns Angel was the one who attacked her in the at street that night he was out of town will there be hell to pay?

Author's Response: **** How can Buffy get past Angel trying to rape her in a ally but Spike being turned makes him no longer her William? **** Poor Buffy. It's easier for her to believe that vampires are merely demons inhabiting dead bodies, and that they have nothing in common with their former selves. Otherwise, she would have to admit that Angel (her erstwhile lover) is the same creature who killed her Watcher's girlfriend and tried to rape her in London. She would also have to admit that William - *her* William, her ideal love - became a murderer. That can't be easy for her. Whether she will be able to face the harsh truth ... well, that remains to be seen. Thanks for reviewing! :-)

Still Dawn has a point (clinging to the bracelet). I hope she can convince Spike a bit. ~ Uh-huh... if you see it this way it's just not right: Moving in into your friends house and using her money while she is gone to pay the bills. Maybe for house but for also for the costs of living their. That's what the rent could have been used for that she is saving because she moved in.
Sure, William is not Spike. Before Buffy went into the past she didn't know William but fell in love with him. it's almost as if she blames Spike that William is gone. ~ Buffy's thoughts go in the same direction as Dawn's, wondering why Willow is there. And it sounds as if the first answer was honest: She simply too the biggest bedroom. ~ What a pity Tom slowed Spike down. I didn't expect (but I should have knows better) Buffy would separate Angel and Angelus as if it were two persons. And now not only Angel has the wrong impression she was abused because she lived there when Buffy meant to go away; Spike arrived at the wrong time. I could kick Angel right now for being so possessive about Buffy when she didn't even notice yet that Spike was there especially when noticing how Spike felt. ~ Looking forward to more because I don't know what will happen next.

Author's Response: *** it's almost as if she blames Spike that William is gone *** Precisely! Thanks for the review. :-)

What a heart wrenching chapter. Buffy's sorrow and brittleness at the unfairness of being back came off the page in waves. I love that she's being short with Willow, angry at her proprietary attitude over the house Willow is also responsible for wresting Buffy's happiness away, she needs to be taken to task. I certainly hope there will be some words to that effect in the future.

Spike's anxiety and confusion were also palpable. He's got so many warring emotions - anger, jealousy, love, betrayal, sorrow - it's a wonder he hasn't gone mad. Coming upon Buffy and Angel at just the wrong moment may be the last straw. At least he missed Buffy's assertion that the place she'd been had been "terrible." That would have completely shattered Spike's heart.

Betrayal seems the overriding emotion in this chapter. There's no way Spike coming upon that tender scene could be seen any other way. This is so deliciously painful, it's difficult to read. In a good way!

This was an emotionally devastating, tight chapter. There were several wonderful turns of phrase, but this really sang:

"Again, when she entered the bathroom, she was struck by how bright it was, how ominously cheerful, like the smile of a friend who was about to stab her in the back." Buffy's sense of betrayal is so close to the surface, she's even thinking of the bathroom in those terms..

Thank you for another wonderful chapter.

Author's Response: Thank you so much! Spike is such a wonderful character in that he feels everything so deeply; it makes exploring his character in my writing that much more interesting I'm glad to hear that I'm doing him justice. :-)

If I were Angel I would be shaking in my boots right now with this fake persona he pretends to be to Buffy and well everyone in this storyline. Like Spike said you know exactly what you were doing and did it anyways dispite being a vampire he did it because he wanted to. I always hate how they make it seem the soul is the only control a vampire has. You really call it into question in this and give people something to think about and that really cool.

Two of my favorite stories posted on the same day I feel really spoiled here but am loving being spoiled lmao.
Dawn is so good in this story and her friendship with Spike is perfect. And her telling Spike of the money situation and about Willow
I liked Buffy going thru her closer and choosing to put on total void of fashion wear cause that is exactly whaat a girl does. Please Buffy see Spike all beat up and react to him as if he is still your William and go to him. Never mind Angel or whatever his butts doing there just see William in Spike right now he needs you to see *him*

Author's Response: You're so right. He's aching for her to see him as the same man as before, if only as a version that's been damaged by his experiences with the world. Thanks for the review. :-)

Yes!!! Someone finally addresses Willow like she has crossed a few lines. I mean you send your friend off to god knows where and then just step into her life? I would be mad and be like go home too.
Angels not fooling anybody here I just hope Spikes not at such a low point as to be hurt by anything Angel might say because Spike always see thru him and it looks like Buffy now is able to too. You cant just say Oh that wasn't you and believe it completely.
Love love love love loving this!

she knew he was lying..............

She seems to know Angel is not the vision she used to have of him I hope she remembers that when she notices Spike standing there.
So much pain Spike has going on right now I hope she gives him something to hold on to as a sign of hope.
Excellent update I was hanging on every word.

Author's Response: To tell you the truth, "she knew he was lying" was more a reference to his telling her that it would be okay than any suspicions about his being the same person as Angelus. Maybe I didn't write that in a way it would be clear, though. If so, I'm really sorry. But it will be addressed in more detail in the next chapter. Thank you very much for taking the time to review. Angry jealous and really battered and he still comes and then to find Angel there comforting her. I say Spike do your snarkyest worst. But then if he does Buffy will think he's exactly what she thought he was a complete monster and nothing of her William left.

You took us back to over a century ago, to Victorian England, then we travelled through the years, the bloody years, with Spike. To his first sighting of the Slayer in Sunnydale, U.S.A. A lookalike for his Elizabeth, he thought. Next stop, several years on, but with a tempered Spike, in love with Buffy and - wham! back she comes from time past and all at once he realises that Buffy is infact Elizabeth and she realises that he understands her knowledge of everything - of the unlife he was going to live, when she knew him, encouraged him, as William. Loved him? Now, they both read the betrayal in his eyes, the grief in hers. He cannot see her love; he cannot see beyond her betrayal at the first shocking sight of her, dressed as Elizabeth and wearing the gift of love from an innocent young man stifled by his demon self.

'Tis a tangled tale, and your fine tuning makes it work, so effortlessly. And now. along with the duality in Spike, as the emotions of William push to the surface - we see the same conflict happening with Buffy. The hardened Slayer veneer, her natural contempt for Spike are now seeped in the memories of yesteryear, where the girl had empathy and warmth and love for William.

I loved Dawn's carping about Willow: I never felt it was addressed enough in the Series and here we have Dawn expressing just such complaint with the clarity and candour of youth.

And as for the Angel factor ....... well. Can't you just see those chocolate-brown eyes melting Buffy with kindness so that she leans into him for comfort - all the while looking at Spike and knowing, yes knowing what lies beneath the younger vampire's exterior. And that momentary smile. A shiver at this inspired hint: a hint of Angelus still present in his soulful counterpart.

Now how is the boy going to react to the scene before him. As William, or Spike - or both?

Brilliant.

Author's Response: ****And as for the Angel factor ....... well. Can't you just see those chocolate-brown eyes melting Buffy with kindness so that she leans into him for comfort - all the while looking at Spike and knowing, yes knowing what lies beneath the younger vampire's exterior. And that momentary smile. A shiver at this inspired hint: a hint of Angelus still present in his soulful counterpart.**** Oh, you understood where I was going with that scene perfectly! That's so great to know. I wasn't trying to portray Angel as "evil"; he does care a lot about Buffy. But he and Angelus aren't completely separate entities, and his history with Spike is bound to bring out his not - so - good side. As to where that will lead ... well, we'll just have to wait and see. Thanks so much for the review. :-)

Oh Angel always did like to stick the knife into Spike and twist it and I don't think he's done twisting yet. I like Angel I really do but where Buffy is concerned he always wants the "best" for her and if that isn't him (and it can't be) then she shouldn't have anyone - definitely not Spike. Then Spike not really thinking about the outcome but just needing to get to Buffy. Oh I love it and I'm not going to try and guess what's going to happen I want to watch it unfold as beautifully as it already has. Thank you so much for the update.

Author's Response: Yeah. I don't believe Angel is a bad person with his soul, but he's selfish when it comes to Buffy and he's never been compassionate with Spike. We'll just have to see where that leads in the next chapter. Thanks for the review. :-)

Well, it was clear that meeting each other in the present wouldn´t be all hugs and puppies, but this is very disappointing, especially because Buffy doesn´t even remotely consider anything of William could be left in Spike. And I don´t think it is the normal reaction, either. Wouldn´t anyone who lost what she did scrabble and search for the similarities? Wouldn´t we want to believe that we have a chance to pick of some pieces to put together? If William had simply died, there would be nothing left but memories. I don´t get her apathy and that she isn´t curious at all.
The complete lack of any interaction or talking puzzles me a bit, it feels weird. And if I didn´t hate Angel before, I would now, extremely so.

Author's Response: I'm sorry you're disappointed. But, honestly, I don't think it would be at all realistic for Buffy to believe that Spike and William are the same person. Her last interaction with him before heading to 1880 was when he tied her up and threatened to let Dru kill her if she didn't tell him she did/could have feelings for him. Also, she has always held the believe that vampires are nothing but demons inhabiting corpses; she mentioned this many times on the show, often prompted by Giles' teachings. If she *did* admit that Spike is just William with 121 years' experience behind him, then she would also be admitting that William is a murderer, which would be absolutely devastating for her. Her reluctance to accept that they are the same person also accounts for her reluctance to see him, but we'll be delving into that more deeply as we go along. I hope you keep reading and thanks so much for the review. :-)
