With a Physician's statement, often a judge will allow a person with a disabling, difficult to manage, or contagious health problem to server their sentence via home confinement/house arrest, monitered with an "ankle or wrist bracelet" device to insure the client does not leave the house without permission. Usually, even a trip to the doctor or hospital, even, for an accused person bonded/bailed out (usually bracelleted due to being considered a flight risk or having a very serious crime/felony and/or a very high bond amount, or convicted with same, the trip would require a lot of red tape permissions and often require accompaniement by a guard, the accused/convicted also being shackled for the trip.
Basically, it's allowed 'cos jails don't want serious health probs to die on THEIR watch or to become their liability. Jails have nurses screen the incoming person minimally regarding health conditions, and they are SUPPOSED to ensure the ill person be seen by a doc the following day....right. Need I mention the type of usual doc typically working the jail? Not all, mind you, but....AND the medically challenged person is supposed to get all their "required" medications, and a note, here, at least in Florida, to my knowledge, it is a policy that NO pain medications be allowed or administered. Possible exception being methadone but that might have changed. However, jail docs have a habit of going thru the medication etc list and changing meds to older & cheaper drugs, and discontinuing as many as possible outright. (SO...no guarantee Spikey is going to get what he needs for his blood disorder or sun allergy...!) By the time a patient gets a chance to even see, even call a rights attourney to file suit against inhumane treatment, they could be DEAD. (Or dead-er or dust in Spike's case!)

Author's Response: This is completely fiction. This was written to be as fake and unreal as humanly possible. So not to be mean, but I don't care about the real regulations. But thank you anyway.

Great chapter, I love that Spike and Angel are friendly with each other and can be out in the sun.

Interesting to see how they both handle jail.

I still don't understand why they are going to jail. I don't think you will have to serve time for speeding and getting caught having sex. I'm not sure but I don't think you will.

Anyways, I look forward to the next chapter. I love the Spuffy lovin in this chapter too.

Author's Response: That's not the point for that fact that they're going to jail and all that. It's just something completely AU. But thanks for your input. :D
