So is the Cruciumentum. (Imagine, that word is not in my spell checker...) And Poor Spike is having a time dealing with it. She always comes through. Just gotta hang in there.

Author's Response: Not in my spell check, either, LOL. I had to keep looking it up to make sure I was spelling it right. I've never written it down so much before. Yes, Spike is having a hard time with Buffy's sudden weakness. Thanks for reviewing!

I'm so sorry I missed reading and reviewing your fic here darling. My life is a bit more hectic now that my college class has started - that and looking for a job is, well, a full time job in and of itslef. God, I feel so sorry for Buffy, it has to be beyond frustrating for a girl whose been able to pretty muh take care of herself. I hope Anya and Willow are able to find something out. And hmmmmmmmm, a curse? Well, it certainly IS possible. Ok, and now I'm off to read the next chapter - loved this one to bits. Smoochies.

Author's Response: I'm still looking for a job myself. Definitely time consuming and not fun. This chapter, Buffy is confused and uncertain about what's happening to her, and definitely not used to feeling weak and helpless. Hmm, not a curse, but of course they wouldn't jump immediately to the real reason. Thanks for reviewing!

So, not only is weakening Buffy a threat for her life, it could drive Spike away from her in fear he might hurt her? Drat. I want to punch Giles in the nose for that all over again! Fantastic update, once again, with the character's voices so clear you could easily have written for the original show.

I hope I made some sense, I'm still trying to wake up!

*hugs*

Author's Response: Don't worry, it seems I'm incapable of keeping Buffy and Spike apart for long. Spike won't be driven very far, LOL. Thank you for the compliments, and I'm glad you liked the chapter!

I feel really bad for Buffy, can't be easy for her to suddenly be without her powers. Can't wait for the next chapter!

Author's Response: Yes, Buffy is having a hard time of it. Next chapter coming soon! Thanks for reviewing!

So Giles is hiding what he did to Buffy. I should have guessed that. Hadn't it been for Anya they wouldn't know that the loss of powers is a Slayer thing. Even if that is all they know.
Good that Spike doesn't know (yet) that he has hurt Buffy. He feels bad enough already.

Author's Response: Yep, Giles is behind it and hiding it. And it is indeed a "yet" about Spike knowing Buffy got hurt. Thanks for reviewing!

You're taking us in the familiar territory of the Cruciamentum - but i've got a feeling that your version is going to be a lot more satisfying than Canon. After all, I found Angel's participation - or non-participation I should say, very aggravating and not credible: he let her walk home along already knowing that she wasn't feeling right. Instead of insisting, which, really, the girl inside the Slayer wanted him to do, he just took her meek reassurances and went back to brood by the fire. Oh, and some present, also. A book of poetry for her eighteenth birthday - for Buffy, whom he knew was never into the profound, more like the here and bloody now.

So, yeah. Already, you have Spike reacting just as I would expect. He's right there with her and it instantly occurred to him what damage he could have unwittingly caused her - as well as for the first time looking at the fear and vulnerability of a victim and not getting any pleasure from it, at all. From little acorns ......

I'm loving you work.

Author's Response: Once I decided to do the Cruciamentum, it was a bit hard to figure out exactly what to do with it here, for the reasons you've mentioned. In the show, it makes absolutely no sense that Angel doesn't help her. I realize that having Buffy rely on him would overthrow the girl power message, but within the context of the story itself, it didn't make sense. Likewise, I had to figure out what to do with Spike. The Spike I've got here definitely isn't going to leave her alone (he didn't leave her alone even when she wanted him to), but at the same time, I still don't want him to do it for her. Then add the Watchers, Giles, and the vampire, in and that's why it took me so long to update, LOL. I had to write several chapters ahead so I was sure it all made sense. The main reason I first wanted to do the Cruciamentum in this story was to have Spike react to a human Buffy again (how he first met her) and have this Buffy think about what being the Slayer means to her (which came out slightly differently than canon). Thank you so much for the comments, and I'm glad you liked the chapter!

Interesting, I feel like this chapter is the calm before the storm.

Author's Response: Hmm, actually the next chapter might be the calm before the storm... Thanks for reviewing!

This was another excellent chapter in this emotional and engrossing story. Buffy's reaction to her loss of powers was well written, and telling Willow and Giles was entertaining. Knowing what's going on adds a sinister twist to Giles' seeming indifference and offer of some focussing meditation.

Having Buffy at his mercy and not knowing it is an excellent reason to be completely freaked out, and Spike's doing a good job keeping it to himself. Right now it would be selfish to lay his worries on her already completely full plate. Maybe Giles will be faced with some of Spike's pent up emotions once this is all over.

Thanks for the update.

Author's Response: Thank you so much! I'm glad you liked it. Yes, much like on the show, Giles's quiet unconern seems slightly odd, but once you know he's behind it, it's even worse. And Spike is a bit freaked out over Buffy's sudden fragility. He's very much aware of what could have happened, how she could have gotten hurt. Thanks for reviewing!

I don't think Buffy is going to be happy with Giles..

And hopefully Spike will find out .. then Giles will finally know. Waiting to see the twist..
Spike actually feeling bad about killing... hmm...

Enjoyed.

Author's Response: No, Buffy is definitely not going to be happy with Giles... Hmm, well, it wasn't Spike so much feeling bad about killing, as much as not liking seeing Buffy in the position of a victim. Thanks for reviewing!
