Buffy is learning to see the grey areas... or so it seems. But it was a hard lesson for her.
Gladly they made it through Spike's confession without much harm. Hard to tell Buffy's reaction beforehand.

Oh, those shades of gray... can't always be black or white Buffy.. But she does handle it better than BtVS.

Spike.. a serial killer whose conscious only points in the direction of the Slayer.. And she can live another day because of it ..

Doesn't Buffy realize most Slayers probably didn't live to be 18 ..and she is aready past that ? But I feel the longer life has more significance than that..

Enjoyed.. and always love to read about their developing relationship. Didn't know how you were going to write this story.. figured less about them and more about the normal BtVS stuff. But I like this much better.

Author's Response: Yeah, I think this Buffy handles gray better. Though she's been dealing with gray almost from the beginning, with her relationship with Spike. It's true that Buffy is already past the age most Slayers live to, though she actually hasn't been the Slayer that long. I think this story ended up being about Spike and Buffy. I mean, any Spuffy story is, but the core of the conflict here is always going to be between them. They may have external obstacles to fight as well, but it's not the driving force. Buffy calling Giles out for endangering her was wonderful. She had every right to be angry, and in this story she's a grown woman, used to making her own decisions and depending on herself. Giles believably doesn't hold as much sway with her as in canon and their distance gives Buffy a lot more power in the relationship.

I also loved Spike's implied menace even in something as innocuous as shopping. Giles' reaction and tattling to Buffy were both stellar and I loved Buffy's nonchalance about the entire incident. Giles may have felt threatened, but that's his problem.

What the heck did Dru see that caused her to burn Darla's clothes and go completely nuts? I can't wait to find out.

The wrestling was a lovely, light scene in yet another vivid and entertaining chapter.

Author's Response: Yeah, Buffy is going to be angry at Giles for a while. She doesn't have quite the relationship she had with Giles in canon, and while that doesn't make the betrayal as hurtful, it also gives her less emotional incentive to patch things right up. I'm glad you liked Spike's shopping! Well, Dru was burning Darla's clothes because it's a perfectly logical Dru thing to do, LOL. Darla burned, so Dru would send her clothes to her by burning them. Another absolutely fantastic chapter! I loved the scene with Spike and Giles in the Magic Box. Spike's character is always so much fun to watch. I also really enjoyed how the prophecy said she would make an unholy alliance with dark forces to prolong her life and then she's sitting there with Spike's fangs in her neck and is all like: Well, hey. This certainly counts as unholy. It was humorous to me because while it is on the surface "unholy", it really isn't. Thanks for the update. It was superb.

Like how Faith helped her out in her dream, though I suppose the question could still be raised as to whether or not that is really Faith. And the drama of Buffy having to talk Spike out of offing Giles was a very true moment between these two. And I love Spike chatting up Mike in the house. The both have valid points, but she should know that Spike will never risk her life when there is a chance he can do something about it. They are too much of a pair, a unit, to be any other way. Wonder what Giles will say... Great chapter. Please, update soon.
