Oh, meant to tell ya about one of my first medieval events...it was in winter, a seriously BUTT-freezing winter for N. Fla. in February, near "Imbolc/Candlemas"-time...One of the communal cabins/small halls was all that was left for accomodations, as we hadn't bothered to reserve in advance. Turned out it was called or nick-named the "Hall of Eagles" as there were carvings or statuary of them atop the rustic building like gargoyles if I remember right; it was made using heavy hewn timbers and logs for the frame, & natural stones. Inside, it had large stone fireplaces at either end of the large basically one room hall, one being slightly raised up on a short dais. There was no light or heat but the fires, and perhaps candles. There were no bunks, and our group, on our end of the hall were practically like extended family, only 2 being unrelated by blood or relationship, and us closest friends. So, we all bunked down on the floor on pallets we made of blankets, plaids, cloaks, furs, even comforters & sleeping bags underneath it all; and we all were bundled as near to the fire as was safe. The next morning, we discovered the other party sharing our hall, rightly enough on & near the daised fireplace, was the King and his party of Queen, ladies, squires, etc, who'd travelled about 12-15 hrs by car & come in very late during the night. Just the bunking down about the fire on the natural stone floor in such a hall was one of those "deja vu" experiences that stick with you as almost real...

I don't always remember to review but I wanted to tell you how much I love this story. I don't know anything about this particular time in history but you have written this story so well I can see everything. Thanks for taking the time to put so much detail into it.

The Spuffy was great - very very sweet and sometimes sweet is good.
