I am so enjoying this story. You obviously have a great love and knowledge of the period. I know almost nothing about this subject but your writing is really bringing it alive. Thanks so much.

Author's Response: I love this period, and the women from it were so strong, they reminded me of Buffy. glad you enjoyed, more soon

Great as usual! You make it quite real to us.
Looking forward to more ASAP!
Who is the Amber for? I know that sometimes lapiz and amber were worn as beads...Amber is considered a "fiery" stone, and therefore masculine in trait...Also sometimes considered magickal. Is it for a talisman or maybe even a keepsake to Wm? I also wondered if it were for Faith or Willow.
I will have to ask Mr. F. about that fancy steel---it's something I haven't heard of...he is a smith, but not THAT fancy.
Here I raised sheep and it took me a few to realize what woven in the grease was---the term had totally slipped my mind! Duh! I've laughed many a day at folks who wore modern fabric blends to historical events/reenactments; and been thankful (especially in our hot humid climate in FL) for my linen shirt, which wicked moisture away rather than being sodden and soggy as cotton (especially more modern, cheaper short staple cotton as opposed to fine long staples, pimas, batistes, etc). and for my woolen cloak or plaid (worn as an airsaidd ( I KNOW that ain't spelled right!), pulled up over my head....while I moved about fairly dry, others would be soaked & soggy...yay, natural fibres... and woven in the grease would repel water all the more, plus insulate to keep warm in, cold out...and I forget how I kept a li'l jar of lanolin for my hands, and to rub on wool I was spinning by wheel or drop spindle, if it was too dry, or would not spin well and "grab" together (lambswool is a bitch, the fibres are so short)...the lanolin (grease) would also stregthen the strands, like running threads for handsewing thru a beeswax cake first...
Look at ya---making me remember things I'd forgotten over the last five yrs or so!
And ladies---lanolin--sheep grease---does wonders for your hands!
I was right there with ya about divin' head first into a cart load of fabric bolts! Been there, literally done that! I firmly believe that she who dies with the most fabric, wins!
Thanks, and more please!

Author's Response: amber had very special properties back then and yes its a gift for some one as is some of the silver... I have linen underdress and woollen hangeroc for when I'm going Viking and keep lovely and warm even in Orkney's wind...when the members of public are freezing in their coats and jeans:) add on my double thickness cloack with its greased outer (very swish, split herringbone in brown and cream) and I am toastie:) and dry!! and as for she with the most fabric winning..you should see my stash:) glad you're enjoying it...more soon

‘William went over to him and the two men were joined in their mutual love of bright shiny weapons’, HAHAHA, men, shakes head – and to this day, they’re STILL like that. And William feeling jealousy? Giggles, yup – he’s in it so deep he can’t breathe. And the scene with Buffy falling in the cart – hysterical, I was laughing out loud at that one. Seems William’s eyes are now wide open to things beyond what he knew. He keeps seeing the world is a bigger and sometimes better place and yet can’t help but keep comparing it to home. He’s homesick, yes, but I think even he sees this is a far better way to live than where he came from – and of course there’s Buffy as well. Such a wonderfully jammed packed chapter of neat little facts – it’s like I get a history lesson (which I adore history) all wrapped up in a fantastic spuffy story. Simply delicious. And go Buffy – boy, she sure can shop no matter what century, huh? LOL. Looking very, very forward to your next update sweety.

Author's Response: I'm afraid the falling into the cart bit was taken from real life...I looked very silly too... Yes William is in deep and changing, although he doesn't realsie how much yet... more soon and Thanks for the review

Yay :) At the moment you're posting the updates very quickly *smile*
Couldn't resist but: Men and her toys, huh? Weapons seem to be very attractive. Well if they are so shiny :)
Thanks for the visit of the market because it read as such a one. It was fun :) Especially with Buffy and Spike being there too ;-)
Unbelievable how valuably the spices once were (most of them at last aren't any longer). It's easy to forget./*end ramble*
Looking forward to more :)

Author's Response: pepper was so expensive most people hadn't even heard of it!! a small box would have its own guard.. adn men can't keep away from the shiney toys no matter what century. my husband is drawn like a moth to the flame when the armourer is around... vara
