Spike got a key but what (where) is the door. A door to Buffy (her fears)? Not sure yet. But the 'bad demon' in Buffy was watching Spike (guessing here).

Author's Response: I figured that there had to be someone before Cecily, and I wanted to accentuate Spike's need to be loved, and the rising awareness of his human self.
