That was beautiful, and I don't doubt William's devotion for a moment or Elizabeth's, but I worry that some other misunderstanding will cause them problems. I hope she does get pregnant if for no other reason then William can reason that she can't be the king's mistress.

I love historical AUs and I'm digging this story! I wanted to yell at William for not explaining the situation to Elizabeth before Joyce did, but alas he didn't. Oh well, it was getting too easy for him. Now he'll have really prove himself worthy of her. Hopefully all that time alone while he escorts her will prove fruitful. He better work fast and hope Henry is reasonable to making Elizabeth his wife. Not likely which just means more trouble for them and more story for us. Perhaps even try to use marriage as a reason for Elizabeth to be with him, better marriage than mistress. Not that that would actually work in this time period, but I get the feeling William's going to get desperate pretty soon.

I love this so far and I have to disagree with the reviewer (who didn't leave a name) about historic based Spuffy fics, I personally like those stories 'because' they portray Spike as the badass and Buffy as the meek, weak one. Seeing how on the show Buffy was always a right bitch to Spike and he was basically her lap dog because he loved her, yada...yada. It is always refreshing when Spike is the more dominate character. I love those type of stories so long as Spike remains the dominate one, don't care for those where he starts out as the tough guy in charge and then over night he's falling in love with Buffy and then becomes pussy whipped (that's too much like the show for me). Also it is true that during Henry VIIII's time women had a place and a role that was to honor and please their men, and they were second class citizens, men were in charged and that was that. But that doesn't mean that the men of those days were incapable of loving women and cherishing them and treating them with respect, even if only behind closed doors. So as I said I like how the story is going so far and I'm looking forward to reading more, keep up the good writing.
Author's Response: Thanks for your support! There will be some change within and between the characters, but not like in Joss' world. I myself don't particularly like the whipped Spike. I love his mainly in Season 2 of Buffy and Season 5 of Angel. that's when you see the snarkyness that most of us love!

I will give this story a chance. I usually do even if I know I won't like it but I still feel you should give something a chance. There isn't one time period Spuffy story that I have loved and liked so far. Not one because they are pretty much the same. Spike is a big ass and Buffy this sweet innocent girl. I do understand that women were treated like property during those times. That I understand. But that doesn't mean that all men back then were jerks. It just makes me think why can't Spike being written as a nice guy for once. Even write Buffy as a cruel woman for once. I don't know. I will give this story a chance. I'm hoping that this is going to be the first Spuffy story that I like during this time. I doubt it but I'm hoping.
I also know what you mean about people complaining when Buffy isn't written as someone who makes mistakes or who has hurt Spike so badly. A lot will be enough of Buffy 'bashing' but I have never seen anyone ever complain about Spike 'bashing' when it comes to be written as an ass all the time. People actually seem to love it. I noticed that stories where Spike is an ass and Buffy is a sweet girl always get high reviews. AU Buffy never gets written even half as bad as AU Spike. Never. At leat I haven't seen one.
Author's Response: I'm glad that you are willing. As I said before, William will be an ass, that's just what my muse wants...she's the boss. But Buffy will give back his shit tenfold, don't you worry. She is NOT going to be submissive, as the women then were. Despite the truth of that behavior, I CANNOT write her that way. It goes beyond my nature. The Buffy from Room with a View was as far as I will go with shyness and slight submissiveness. This Buffy will not hide in the shadows nor does she go against her nature, no matter how she is suppose to. This is not a little red riding hood and bad wolf story. This is about two strong-willed people coming together. I hope I can break the track record of disappointments. If I cannot, I hope you will continue to read my stories. Thanks for your reviews.

I love your other stories. I'm just not sure of this one. The thing with time period stories such as this one is that Spike is often written as a jerk who is treats Buffy cruel. He then falls in love with sweet innocent Buffy and he changes for her even if he isn't worthy of her love. I'm kind of sick of those stories so I stay away from them. So, I'm hoping that Spike isn't written as an ass and Buffy as this sweet innocent girl who does no wrong. I know that women were treated like property at this time but that doesn't mean that all men were jerks. I refuse to believe that all men at those times treated women cruel and were jerks. I'm interested in this story but I'm going to disappointed if Spike is just some big jerk and Buffy is written as someone who can do no wrong. Thanks
Author's Response: I'm glad that you enjoy my other stories, thank you so much. I understand your hestiation with a period piece. It is true, William will be an ass and does see women as possessions. It's not my will, but the time period. Sorry. It's true not all men were like that, but it was more of a commonplace then we, as women, would have liked. Before you throw in the towel on this one, I just want to let you know, Buffy is not perfect, nor do I write her that way. I never do. We all have faults, and I seem to get myself some negative reviews because I point them out. Oh well. I transgress...Anyway, there will be change for BOTH characters and Buffy is not completely innocent nor is William a complete ass. That's all I can say. Hopefully you will continue with the story. If you choose to go, that's fine. Hopefully this doesn't turn you away from all my stories, just this one.

A very ambitious undertaking. I love historical romances and you have the attitudes here spot on. The treatment of women was not pretty but if you choose to write about the era, then you must tell it like it was. So far so good. Good for you for the disclaimer about the small history blips. Believe me, some people will take issue and tell you it ruins the story!!! If so simply invite them with their vast knowledge to act as your research assistant.

Fantastic first chapter! Can't wait for the next update. I assume that the King in the story is Henry VIII, who was childhood friends with the Duke of Suffolk, Charles Brandon. The fact that Elizabeth lives in France is also reminiscent of the origins of Anne Boleyn. I live in England and the Tudors is one of my favourite periods of history (I'm also a big fan of the TV series 'The Tudors' with Jonathan Rhys Meyers). Looking forward to reading more...
Author's Response: First of all, hello from over the pond! Secondly, this time period is one of my favs also. Thirdly, the king is Henry VIII and William is loosely based on Charles Brandon. His lust for women and the finer points in life will be mirrored, but the multiple marriages and children will not. In addition, despite my greatest draw is to the time of Anne Boleyn, I wasn't using her when I wrote Elizabeth's character. Now that I look at them, they do mirror each other in many ways. It was probably my subconcious that did it. Any how, Elizabeth will be of quick wit and intelligent, but she will not be cunning nor driven to be so by her father. Also, religion will play little part in this tale. In saying this, I hope that you will continue to read. I too am a BIG fan of the 'Tudors' and Jonathan Rhys Meyers, is damn sexy. So isn't Henry Cavill, who plays Charles Brandon. They are growl worthy...as of Spike!!!!
