On one hand Buffy knows now that she doesn't need to open a portal because nobody went through it. But now Buffy lost her hope, no good.

Spike seems to be lost now. He too doesn't have hope because he lost Buffy. This is a feral Spike, killing (even if he was hesitating first). Buffy knew the kind human he was; no wonder she has trouble accepting him (when they meet in an earlier chapter, the flash back / flash forward).

Author's Response: Indeed. It's a hopless situation for her because now she's finally starting to realize there's nothing she can do to change what happened. Buffy can no longer pretend that William didn't die. Yup, losing Buffy threw him over the edge and he no longer cares about anything but making everyone else hurt as much as he does. He'll truly be a vamp though he's still William at heart and he can't change that. By the time they meet, Spike won't be the shy sweet boy Buffy had first met. But he's still there, buried beneath the demon. Thank you for the awesome review!!! :)
