How sad that his father's death is William's first memory.
And not an easy past (life) after his mum died.

A tough but good chapter to read. it was great to know where he came from but but at the same time it broke my heart. No wonder he keeps his cards so close to his chest, he has been hurt so much in the past, he's built the wall of china around himself! He needs a major breakdown.

Author's Response: Yeah, it was a tough chapter to write. It was draining. All that pain and heartache :( And the reason you stated is the exact reason why I finally decided to delve into his past. If I wrote him being all guarded, readers would see him as a jerk and that's not what I wanted. I wanted them to know why he's guarded, why he's stubborn, and ... Don't want to give too much away!!!

Glad for the update! I love how this chapter gives us some insight on Spike's past.

New banner is great, i just wanna know if your updating regularly now or going on hiatus again. Really terrific story, but i hate waiting soooooo long for the next chapter.

Author's Response: I'm glad you enjoyed the banner. Living in the Northeast, I've had enough snow this winter to last me a life time! As for updating, I didn't go on a hiatus exactly. Yes, it did take me awhile to get this chapter out. That was not intentional. There were reasons for the delay. This chapter was difficult for me to write for dozens of reasons and I don't want to bore you with them. Also, between my RL of: being a mom, wife, and working full time, it doesn't leave much time for writing. I'm glad your enjoying this story and anticipating my updates. Believe me, when I get a chapter the way I want it and after my lovely betas do their magic, I post it. Hopefully, this will suffice.

Such a trying life for our poor William has endured. Love Drusilla as a conduit to get William to Spike and California. At least he now has it in him to survive, though it's clear he always did. Love seeing how Buffy remembers meeting him, wonder how they got to the point of a real relationship. And I wonder how much of his past she really knows. How could she leave him behind. So glad she does bring out a bit of the William. Touching. Update soon. The night won't last forever.

Author's Response: Well, even though your past shapes who you are, it doesn't dictate your current self. You have to make a conscious effort to steer clear of the negative aspects of yourself and your past, but it still can be done. I know, after reading William's past, it seems wrong she left him, but you can't stay with someone because you feel bad for them. That reason alone is not a reason to stay. My plans are to update soon. Thanks for your insightful review.
