Chapter 5

Every head in the Wolfram and Hart lobby turned as a very angry
brunette stormed through. Heading for the stairs in the middle of the lobby,
Cordelia Chase quickly climbed them until she reached the second floor.
Promptly walking to the set of wooden doors against one wall, Cordy
passed Spike’s secretary without so much as a second glance. Pushing through the doors to his office, both Spike and his co-worker looked up at the
intrusion.

“William Chase!”

“Uh oh, mate. Sis is using both names- you best get outta here and
save yourself,” Spike said as his friend made his way around the angry woman
and out the door.

“Cordelia, what can I do for you this fine day?”

“You’re dating Buffy Summers?”

“Yeah, what of it?”

“Love ‘em and leave ‘em Chase is dating one of my employees?”

“I’ve already said yes, Cordy, and to be fair, I’m not the only one with
that nickname.”

Cordy glared at her brother as she went to sit on one of the couches
next to the windows. “Spike, we had a deal. No dating each other’s co-workers
or friends. It gets weird when you end it, and then the girl always comes
crying to me, wondering what she did wrong.”

“Who says it’s going to end?”

Cordelia merely arched a sculpted eyebrow at her brother.

“Don’t look at me like that.”

“Spike…” she said in a warning tone.

“Look, I like this girl, and I don’t want to give her up.”

“Spike, I like her, too, which is exactly why I don’t want to see her
get hurt when you get tired of her.”

“Cordelia, why don’t you spend more time worrying about your love life
and less time obsessing about mine?”

“Okay,” she said with a smile. “You know, I’ve had my eye on that hot
friend of yours who just left.”

“Angel? No, Cordy.”

“What do you mean ‘No’?”

“I mean just what I said- no. My sister is not dating a man who makes
my dating record look like a priest’s.”

“You’re exaggerating, Spike.”

“No, Cordelia.”

“We’ll see,” she said with a smile, gracefully exiting his office.
