Hi PJ, I didn't want to start reading a new WIP because I'm reading so many of them right now and I have a busy life, but decided to give this one a try anyway. So far, I'm really liking this. Very dark. I enjoy the flashbacks. It's really horrible what happened to Joyce. I don't think I'd ever get over it if something like that happened to me. Can't blame Buffy for running away. Can't wait to read the rest.
Author's Response: I don't hate Joyce, but I needed a major tragedy that would just void Buffy of feeling. The fic is dark, and continues to be, but if you give it a chance til the latest chapter, you'll see it does have a tiny shining bright side that will come out fully at the end. Excellent update! I'm glad that Spike's beginning to express more of his feelings towards Buffy, even though he doesn't actually vocalize them. Hopefully Spike's plan for Amy works out, Harmony and the others stay away from Buffy, and that Buffy starts to realize that Spike really does have feelings for her outside of simply wanting to sleep with her.

Excellent chapter sweetie! I loved that we learned more about Spike's past with Dru, and we actually saw a softer side of Buffy as well. She was concerned, just as he was for at the beginning of the chapter.

Another great update! I'm glad you're showing more vulnerability in Spike's character, and their relationship seems to be changing at least a little for the better. Still feel bad for Buffy though having to be dragged into this whole horrible gang thing... Anyway, love it and as always can't wait for more.

Man, this was a great chapter in the fact that his gang is having a hard time believing the Amy for Buffy thing. Cordy showing some connection with Buffy by giving him the pepper spray. Spike realizing that Buffy is very important, but with the flashback with Dru can understand why he's holding back giving her the knowledge how deep his feelings are. Buffy's eyes is starting to see that Spike is more then she first thought, and if the next couple chapters continue, then their foundation will be stronger...and if I'm reading the hint, it's a good thing they are getting closer....for it might be what saves them and gives them the strength to come out of this stronger and not weaker for it......if that makes sense......

Great update, pet. Plenty of things to worry over in this chapter.
First, there's Cordelia's 'friendly' help for Buffy... done as a gesture of one strong woman to another, or was there annother 'ulterior' motive???
Then there's Amy. A crackhead who will do whatever her supplier wants her to do. While Spike has that control over her, he's fairly secure in the knowledge that she will do want he wants, but... there's no loyalty there, and the moment someone else offers her a better deal (e.g. freedom), she'll jump at the chance.
Then there's the chemistry between Buffy and Spike. I totally empathise with Buffy's frustration and anger at Spike in her conversations with him, and I'm sure that Spike's less than aggressive responses back to her are because he does recognise that he has indeed curtailed her freedom, of choice and liberty. However, I'm somewhat puzzled that she is still full of hatred internally toward him where their emotional feelings are concerned. An example,
Buffy closed her eyes, hating the way he made her feel. Wanted. And she would never admit it. It was wrong. Very wrong.
Why did she hate
Author's Response: Because it's him. Not because feeling wanted is bad, but because liking the fact that she feels wanted by HIM is bad, and so she thinks she hates the way he makes her feel. And the internal hate is, of course, going back to the rape. She tries very hard to remember that, even though sometimes she fails.

Buffy! Don't let that boy walk out that door! How amazing the vibes that run between those two. When she said she'd never really be his... my goodness, I think I heard Willam's heart break. And the kiss when he spoke of the reason that it was more than sex, those words he just couldn't come up with, that undefineable pull that is simply just there. Amazing. And that little inkling in our Buffy's subconscious about how good it felt to be needed, even in that unholy place they call home. How they simply just need each other. This story just gets more and more amazing each time. Can't wait until the next update.

Hey..Staying up late tonight got me a prezzie...an update! yay
Ok..I can definately see Buffy and Spike developing right along in last few chapters. * I loved the paragraph where Spike said something about not being able to sleep..I got the impression that he meant he couldn't sleep without Buffy..but then he covered it up with the comment about Amy screaming. By the way PJ, you are a master at coveying your characters thoughts and feelings withthout them actually coming out and saying them. :D
Well..I am going to try to enjoy the not as dark angst for the next bit..but now ya got me just waiting for something terrible to happen. lol

I don't think I've ever enjoyed a Spuff-fic more then I have enjoyed reading this. Even with the dark tones I was completely wrapped up into this the whole weekend reading it. Sorry I didnt comment at the end of every chapter I just wait till the last posted chapter.
Excellent writing and you have such a firm hold on all the players I'm beyond impressed. I will ret not to beg for more but I know I will fail with that as I'm sitting here waiting for Spike to break into Buffys new room.

Merry Xmas and Happy New Year. FYI, I finally became a bonifide member (golf clap), my reviews I submitted for this story were under the name ‘t’, now of course I’m TMW.
Sweeeeeeet. VERY good chapter, f’course I expect nothing less from you now – puts author on pedstal bows repeatedly chanting we’re not worthy, we’re not worthy, LOL. As usual you didn’t disappoint in providing a twist I didn’t expect. I’ve also dubbed Spike the nick name crumb snatcher (something I call my 2 small children), for his eternal quest for signs of something from Buffy.
If I’m interpreting this chapter correctly, then Spike knows now that he means at least a little something to Buffy (the show of jealousy/ kiss and statement of not distracting me). I hope he takes advantage of this in future chapters to break down some of her resolve. Her revealing information I hope will bring them ultimately closer, but it will depend on how Spike treats her after he’s through w/ Amy. I do wonder however, if Buffy realizes, or will, that she needs to be on Spike’s side for her own survivals sake. I mean if something should happen to Spike, she could be at the mercy of anything, to include Angelus.
I love how quick witted spike is, being able to formulate a plan sooooo quickly w/ buffy’s information about Angelus (unlike the btvs series, ya know the act first think later Spike. Dangerous smart men are so much more sexy, give me a bad boy any day of the week). Seems like he wasn’t or didn’t have time to be mad at her for with-holding, either that or he doesn’t blame her or expect anything less from her. As I said, I’m curious to hear the conversation Spike will have w/ Buffy after he’s through w/ Amy. Which by the way was brilliant, meaning he let Buffy know in his own way (“can’t just let her go”), he has some sense of humanity…not having sex w/ her and not killing her either. I’m really anticipating to read what conversation will goon in Spike’s room between him and Amy. OR, will Spike simply sneek into Buffy’s room to spend the night w/ her, reassuring her of his intent to keep her for himself and safe as well.
It should be a crime how hooked on your fic I am, and thanks for answering the how parker died question.
Author's Response: Crumb snatcher LMAO! I keep Buffy's thoughts sort of in mystery, but some part of her definitely knows that she needs him to survive, at least she does initially. And soon you'll see a trend of just how much Spike "overlooks." Thanks for your long review!

I'm sick on New Years and a friend sent me this to cheer me up and it soooooooooooooo did!!!!!!!!!!
I've never read a cooler S/B fic it has real heart and guts this does. It really made my night and please add some more. I'm dying to see what S does to A and if B helps him out or what.Great fanfic this has it all blood sweat and tears and you just can't put this down.

I'm normally really standoffish on dark fics but my friend told me I had to read this and she was so true. From the first page it just pulls you in I love how you write out the characters and keep true to them while adding in your own spin on them. Really a great read I highly recommend this story for anyone looking for a great story to follow. Sadly with BtvS ending it's great writers like this that keep the Joss universe alive.
