I liked your story. I see your distinction too. Their is a difference in giving criticism with the intent to help someone get better and tearing someone down just because you can. One of two distinct and sadly common things that can be destructive about the review system. Those who flame just cause they can. And those who feel the need to dictate others creativity. I'll explain what I mean by the latter. I will admit there are fictions I dislike purely because of content. The writing maybe sharp and witty but I dislike the direction the author takes the story. So you know what I do? Stop reading. Period. If there is something I feel can help the person, yes I'll review with advice. But having the right to take the fiction in any direction their muse tells them is not something an author should be harassed about. Just wish some reviewers would remember this is something a person put their time and effort in. Advice is only helpful when given in a fashion that helps the person see the distinction. If you become hurtful and threatening you will have shared nothing. Think how you react to others treating you poorly. Do you nod and agree with them or do shut out their words and stop listening? Anyway, that was my two cents. I thank you for writing this cause agree or disagree at least you've got people thinking about the reviews they leave behind.

Author's Response: Thank you for taking the time to leave such a detailed comment. I do so agree that reviewers should try to be constructive and not hurtful. I wrote Dont Press Send because I had received an extremely nasty review for one of my stories because the person hated what I was doing with the characters. It had nothing to do with the writing, just her personal taste in fiction.
Reviewing can cause so much pleasure and give so much pain as well.
Anyway, hope you enjoy some of my other stories. I’ll look forward to your reviews!

I don't know what reviewer you were not-so-subtly rebuking, so I can't say if they deserved your mockery or not.
But I can tell you that the word you want is lose, not loose.

I see your point.. and know people that love to do this. It's so easy to hurt someone... oh yeah. In a way I'm glad Dawn has such a protector ;-)

Hmm.... you know, somehow I find some kind of sadistic pleasure in this. This fic is great, it's different from others - one shot, but told a lot. Spike is so protective though... *shivers* so sexy. ;)
Author's Response: Thanks for reviewing. We never got to hear much about Spike and Dawn during that time, did we?

Hey, I liked the ficlet, the whole Dawn and Spike friendship thing, even though I think you´re a bit hard to the reviewing person *lol*
I mean ok, some people just like to flame stories for fun but there are also reviewers and writers, like me, who review what they really think of the story.
I write myself, I pour out a lot of things I have to deal with but if someone doesn't like it and thinks it is boring and gives me a reason, I have to accept that.
NIce and good reviews aren't the best ones but the true ones, even though most authors don't like criticism.
Of course just meaningless flaming is mean and stupid but I have to remember while writing, the readers didn't see and live what I had to go through and made me start writing.
Even if in the header is a "I wrote it because I have to cope with something" That won't make me write a perfect review if the story isn't good.
I prefer to be honest but without being bitchy about things at first
( I have to admit, if people post like 5 chapters with worst plot and spelling ever without listening to any of their earlier reviews I tend to be a bit angry *rofl*)
But just flaming because a story is Spuffy or by someone the reviewer doesn't like is not okay.
Nikki
Author's Response: Hi, yes, I totally agree. Story was not aimed at reviewers - the whole point of reviews is that people have opinions about a story. It was aimed at people who use sarcasm in an unnecessary format and crush some writers out of fiction existence. Flaming a story just for the hell of it isn’t fair.

Hehehehehe....you are the clever one my dear!
I loved this; it kind of sums up writers' feelings, doesn't it?
How simple it is to flame someone who is pouring their feelings out in their stories.
Bravo Lil!

Author's Response: Thanks for kind words. I just want reviewers to be honest - most of them are - but not spiteful.

THAT...was..AWESOME..
I so love Spike/dawn friendship..and Spike in over-protective mode is great, and I can totally see him following her to school. LOL
Excellent ficlet!

Well...take one part reality with two parts BtVS. Let it marinate for a while then add angst and self-analysis to taste. Garnish with a little "I'd never do something like that" and finally sprinkle over a pinch of "that wouldn't happen to me even if I did". Serve cold. LOL. Short and sharp though it certainly made its point. I liked it. 8-)
