God, I'm balling my head off. This packed a huge emotional punch the likes I haven't read in a long time. What Buffy said--was so tragic. I love what you did here.

Author's Response: Joss may have turned her into the Ice Queen as far as her emotions go, but it doesn't mean that she doesn't still know how she feels. I just shattered the wall and let her express it for once :) Unfortunately, this time it happened to be sad. *shrugs* Oh, well :)

The tension of that final almost-kiss was pure magic. The build-up was perfect and then Buffy to shatter the moment...gahhhh. Just wonderful.

You just have to love the way Riley keeps jumping back up and rushing in to be bowled over yet again. The dynamic you've created between Buffy and Spike is just so incredibly powerful, and the intimate scenes draw out so much hope and longing. Great chapter.

Author's Response: Unfortunately, a lot of Buffy's longing and hope stems from the fact that she keeps giving in, then backing away, then giving in again :) And, I say again, Riley is an asshole. And also very stupid.

This is one of the hottest scenes ever. I love Buffy's confusion and glad that Riley is making it so easy for her to kiss him goodbye!

Author's Response: Well, maybe I got a little carried away with the whole "Riley is an asshole" spiel, but hey -- fanfic is fanfic. I've seen people write that Darla is just a misunderstood creature of darkness instead of the slutbitch she was portrayed on the show as... at least in the early seasons. If they can do that, I can make Riley a dickhead. Although, as you so kindly pointed out, he already made that job all the more easier :)

I adore how fun and playful Spike is in this fic. He has the epiphany and sets to winning her. You just can't read this fic too many times.

this is a wonderful story. how i only wish it had gone this way in the show. you had the voices of the characters right on the mark. and thanks for not having xander be his usual hateful self! course, would have loved a lot more of the spuffy lovin' but that did not detract at all from this story. oh! and thanks for getting rid of riley too - i hate that guy! thanks for sharing this fantastic story with us.

Author's Response: I prefer the non-assaholic Xander. He's been with Buffy since the beginning, so I give him the benefit of the doubt at times, but I don't want him turning out like a hypocritical bigot the way he did on the show - sleeping with Anya but ragging on Spike and saying he hated demons and that all demons are bad when his girlfriend massacred people for over 1000 years and just brushing it off with a "oh, but she's human now!" Gah. Wise up!
