This chapter was absolutely heartbreaking. I felt like crying because I could feel Spike's unhappiness. I was afraid to keep reading after Spike discovered that the eggs were warm. I knew something bad would happen. Please let Dawn be okay. I don't think that is something Buffy could forgive.

Author's Response: To tell you the truth ... I almost felt like crying as I wrote it. Spike is such an emotional character and writing him can be such an emotional experience. I'm glad that feeling is translating onto the page. Thanks so much for the review!

He should have listened when she tried to convince him to abandon his money making scheme ... and she should have listened when he told her not to follow him. I choked up on the part when Spiked headed to his crypt instead of heading to Buffy's with Dawn cause he really does want a home with them and Buffy has kinda just left things sort of hanging and probably does not realize how unsure Spike is when it comes to having a life with her she kinda just assumes he knows or reads her mind on what she wants.
I think Spike has passed the crumb phase and she should give him more its like he gives her his all and she kinda holds back still.

He is willing to risk everything including his own happiness and relationship with Buffy just to keep her happy. If that is not love above and beyond I don't know what is.
Spikes kicks modern day mans ideal of love any day of the week even if he is only fiction he protects his girl. Not everyone is gonna get that but this story goes to another level in good.

The tension just keeps ramping up in this riveting story. Spike's obsession grows with every chapter. Buffy can't reassure him enough, he's a bottomless pit of need and want and even if she were wearing his ring and had given him a key to the front door, there would still be some doubt wearing Spike down.

The bone deep weariness and constant hunger are adding fuel to the fire, and now Giles is on the case. I think Dawn's "Things are so great right now—everything’s finally good—and you’ve got your finger on self-destruct. You’re going to make her hate you...” isn't far from the truth. The angry bite feels like just the beginning of that self destruction.

I disagree with Dawn on this "Everything is not good" right now it is close but it's not perfect for the simple reason Spike has no idea where he stands with Buffy and where they are at. Are they a couple? are they together together? are they living together? will she wear his ring? whats his role now in her life now that they aren't tryig to kill one another and everything that has happened on the past has come out. Dawn in a teenage way kinda does not see all that is going on she just sees they kind of have a family thing together going on and that is what she craves again and does not want him to blow it. She does not see how scared Spike is and his need to be the man in their life.
I'm hopeful or optimistic or whatever that it will all work itself out. Cant wait till you add more

This is Spike and he is the first to admit the blood doesn't always flow first thing to his head he just goes with his gut and his gut is telling him to protect his woman by any means necessary. And Giles is doing the same to protect his slayer
