I started on this last night and could not make myself sign off till I got to the last page and wow I love your writing style and how you make both of them so real you can almost reach out a hand and be in the story yourself. You should do books or something cause I would read all of your works.

How I got behind on this and missed the last page posting I do not know but it was a real zinger to get caught up this morning and lost myself in FttP again

Spikes desperation is so clear and her caring for him is so tender I dont want the truth to come out just to spare them both from the pain

Am I a bad person for being glad about the claiming even though consent wasn't actually given at the time? This should be the only thing to bring Buffy back to him should she find out (rather, when she does!!!)

Can't wait for more, I'm so worried I can't stand still now and I have to do something about those puffy eyes!!!

Oh dear heavens. I have rarely liked Giles, especially in the show and now...well, I really despise him to say the least. He's going to ruin everything, isn't he? Stupid, prejudiced, hateful Watcher...he should mind his own bloody business! And the way he was bullying Dawn, Buffy wouldn't like that at all...no matter what his reasons were. He should receive a swift kick to the man berries if you ask me. Maybe with a pair of steel toed combat boots, just for good measure.

I have been on pins and needles waiting for this update. I honestly am totally in love with it! Needless to say, you didn't disappoint me at all. Well, except for the meaness that is sure to come to poor, tenderhearted, really meant well, Spike. Buffy's head is literally going to explode when she finds out what he's doing. And it's just sad, because she is finally being honest with her self and her feelings for Spike. **Le Sigh**

I guess I will continue to hold onto my hope that all will be well in the end. Fingers are crossed and so are my toes, just to be on the safe side. Great chapter, by the way, full of emotion and heartache. Loved it. Angst-whore is thy name. ~Serenity (Tori)

HES THE SWEETEST GUY TO RISK HER BREAKING UP WITH HIM TO TAKE CARE OF HER!! i CANT believe that he claimed her and i wonder if buffy knows the full truth of the claim. also i cant believe she took it so well and i cant wait until they talk about it. im so pissed at giles, why cant he just leave them alone? i hope that wen buffy finds out about spike she isnt too pissed and doesnt break up with him. also i really hope that everything works out well and that they end up together and happy. You know I love how you added the eggs to this. And deep down I kinda suspected but then I also thought it might be this ridiculously mundane job that he would be embarassed to have. But more so than in the actual episode featuring the eggs, you use it to draw in a fuller characterization of spike that is so much truer to the Spike we know than the one they formed in season six... cuz I mean honestly. But great writing! ...long but all good things take a while right? This is a perfect analysis of spike, the good intentions mixed with single-minded obsession and the apathy towards anyone he doesn't know and personally care about. It's like a child, selfish willful, but good intentioned in their black and white view of the world. It is so....utterly.. SPIKE!

Author's Response: I'm glad you liked the addition of the eggs. I've gotten some negative feedback about that because a lot of readers are afraid I'm going to rehash "As You Were," which isn't remotely the case. Thanks so much for the review. :-D

Spike is so edgy and quietly frantic - you've really portrayed that so well in his POV narrative - that this whole chapter has a sense of forboding. Frankly, I can't understand Buffy missing all the clues; I know she was never intuitive with a capital I but nevertheless, she is seemingly distracted by this new togetherness which, in a weird way, keeps her at a safe distance from her disapproving pals and Watcher. For me, in his unswerving efforts to please her, Spike is acting too much like William, only William with a psychotic edge. His constant worry and inner assessments are in fact quite draining, especially when Buffy's discovering the truth - AND SHE WILL - is going to be ......... awful. I want them together, him there, Dawn onside, the Dynamic Duo that is Buffy and Spike ..... but not like this. It feels brittle at the moment. Can't help it, but I'm waiting for the SNAP!

Author's Response: Edgy and frantic sums it up well. Poor Spike. You're completely right when you say he is acting like William with a psychotic edge, and I think Buffy's behavior toward him is only exacerbating the problem. The more obsessive he behaves toward her, the more positive feedback she gives him. I don't think it is at all intentional on her part, but it certainly isn't helping matters any. There is also a reason she is not noticing the signs that something is wrong with him ... but that's all I can say about that. Thanks so much for the review. :)

Yes, Spike is a loaded gun with only Buffy for his moral guidance. It's so bittersweet to see his devotion and know that he's trying to help her, but that the effort damns him also. Phenomenal writing even in the midst of this prospective heartbreak.
