Buffy's not really running hot and cold. She's trying to maintain a comfortable working relationship with someone she doesn't really realize she has feelings for. It's a tightrope, and the mutual attraction, though hard to deny, is still new. Spike takes even their tentative friendship as Buffy giving in.

It makes perfect sense that Spike would consider his growing feelings a symptom of not having sex for a while. He's not used to caring for women. They've just been used for scratching an itch in the past. Buffy's reaction to Harmony also belies her intense not caring very much that Spike's getting said itch scratched. For a genius, he sure is an emotional bonehead. Their relationship is tense and hilarious and I love that Willy sees right through them.

Hungover Buffy, still bristling from walking in on Harmony, should be loads of laughs on Saturday morning. I can't wait.

ANd really, Spike being 23, well, I don't know a ton of 23 year old guys who don't tend to think with their second brain and then justify it somehow - that's testoerone for ya, but of course he's not really 'with' Buffy so in his head, he didn't do anything wrong - like you said, emotional bonehead. But like other folks, you're right. They aren't together so he can do whatever he wants... however.... his comeuppance is simply Buffy reacting badly due to her attraction for him but he will actually learn something which is the important part. i love this story. i really think its awesome. i read your author's note at the very end however and it made me a little sad. i don't know if this is just my opinion, or the opinion of other readers as well, but if you have chapters ready,... why wait a week to post them. i know it drives me crazy during the week, and not in a good way. the story is so funny and well written that i juts want to read as much of it as i can. yeah

The reason why some authors choose to post once a week despite having chapters ready is that (and I'm not saying I speak for all those authors) we like to go over our chapters very thoroughly and I know I'm constantly tweaking little things here and there. It gives us time to finish writing the story knowing that we have chapters in reserve in case RL problems arise – kids getting sick, visitors, vacation - and I like to really polish my chapters up as much as possible before posting – it’s the virgo in me, giggles. Plus a week gives every reader a chance to read according to their work schedules and such. Some people don’t get to read the updates until later in the week and then they might be lost not knowing I’d posted so close together. Hope that answers your question. Thanks for the review – hugs.

Well, Spike just proved to Buffy what she had already known - he only cares about sex and not about the woman. So Buffy will run even further away. I'm actually looking forward to Buffy finding a guy who actually cares about her. I hope Buffy gets to have sex with someone, too. It's not fair that Spike gets to have that release but not Buffy. She does need to get laid. How stupid is Spike to bring Harmony to the apartment when Buffy and him are supposed to be rooming together in secret? Is Spike so mad at Buffy that he is tying to cause her all of this trouble at work also? If so, he definitely needs a comeuppance.

You're another reviewer who has wondered about Buffy being able to have some bed fun with someone else. They're hardly beholden to each other at this point, so I don't really care that he went and got laid. I wouldn't be surprised if he ended up thinking about Buffy the whole time he was with Harmony.

Sadly, Spike hasn´t done anything to deserve comeuppance. As lewd an asshole he has been, he HAS done loads of good for Buffy. She has done nothing but being an absolute mega-bitch to him.
Sadly, it looks like check-mate right now, because if she doesn´t give even a little bit, and he resumes fucking around and gives up on her like he does, that whole thing leads to nowhere. Also, the whole jealous scenario if she gets it on with someone else, too, has been done already with the Parker-incident, why repeat that again? It´s all a bit depressing right now and as condescending, presumptious and blithely as Buffy acts towards Spike, I understand that he´s had it now. And if she goes to someone else, too, that non-existant relationship is at a dead end.
I wonder how you´ll change that, can´t wait for the next update, cause it looks very bleak right now.

Author's Response: And you're right, he hasn't done anything wrong to deserve comeuppance, but he'll get it anyway for the reason that more importantly... he learns a lesson about respect, you'll see. Yes, they can both be childish and they definitely will thru the fic, but it's a learning process for both. SHe needs to unwind, he needs to tighten up a bit, its a give and take thing. But hey, I got you to feel for the characters and form good opinions on them and that tells me at least I've written it well enough to really get you involved in the story, which makes me happy. As for another Parker incident - oh hellllll no i am not going down that road, ick!
