Excellent! A good brawl and Buffy's (almost) back in action! Leave it to Spike to punch the love of his life after she gave him a gift of a river made of human blood. :) Great chapter, glad to read about your continued dedication to this fic. I wholeheartedly agree that thought out and well-written chapters are far superior than writing because you feel you have to. Looking forward to what happens after this momentous change!

Now that Buffy's experienced the intimacy, how long can it be before she's trying to share it? Spike's opened a door that can't be closed without Buffy feeling that what he's shared with her is somehow wrong. Spike struggling to contain his own desires is making for a wonderful read, raising the level of tension even as Spike is doing the right thing.

Buffy just being grateful to have a companion is offering a warmth and belonging that Spike's never really felt in Buffy's presence. Her acceptance and the touching and her deference that he knows best is painting a picture of her childlike state that is in stark contrast to her womanly attractions. I's no wonder Spike has to struggle to keep himself in check. This Buffy has no idea of their shared experience. Spike's right to protect her from herself.

This was a wonderful synopsis of Buffy's state: " This Buffy was like his reflection—fleeting, a glimpse of something changed by circumstance, something alterable." She's a blank slate that Spike can manipulate right now. At least he has moral compass enough to know that would be wrong.

Ah this - promised to get Buffy home.
Spike tries so hard to take care of Buffy, so sweet.
Even when being near her doesn't make it easy for him.
Buffy has forgotten so much - makes me wonder if the shower and Spike's taking care of her need did trigger something; though I fear rather not.
