Excellent sad, heartbreaking chapter. Your story is breaking my heart. God they still love each other so much, but they have just stopped talking. Agh! Hopefully her car won't start...just a suggestion. ;)

Gosh, you write so well, D!
I too noticed that pen clicking thing and the cold leather as she put her coat back on and such - people concentrating on such things in those tense and ending situations.
By the time that the hugged, I was teary eyed and just screaming in my head: 'don't you dare let go of him, Buffy! hold on for the dear life!'
but then they parted and I really, really want to know what happened between those two. I mean, only 3 chapters into the story and I already feel so much for the two of them, like I'd have known them for alot more than that.
Love this story. Simply said :)

I like the concentration on mundane activities in this chapter, like the detail about clicking the pen. Illustrated really well the intensity of the moment, the way people focus on odd things when they're very upset. The same could be said for Will gathering up a hand full of pens. Funny and sad at the same time.

This story is so good and so sad. I wasn't gonna read at first cause of the angst warning(didn't feel like reading a broken up Spike/Buffy), but I'm glad I did. You write them beautifully. I can feel the pain they're both in. What happened to break them up? It must have been awful (I'm guessing the death of a baby?)
The snake incident was a light moment in an otherwise sad chappie.

I can't wait for their conversations to start. And the "magical" cabin to bring them together when they get snowed in. (At least I hope that's what happens ;] )

I'm really enjoying your take on this Buffy and Spike. I feel bad for both of them and curious to what trauma they shared that led to all of this. Two chapters in and we know so very little of the angst between them. Good work!

when there was a word 'snake' i shook just like Buffy always does when she drinks alcohol. in a blllleeeeaaaacccchhhh kind of way :D
and then I even went and typed in on how that snake looks like... and gosh...I'm so not a snake fan! I have actually heard of those saying about the colors though..just forgot about them.
Anyway, enough of my little phobia, The chapter was fun and sad at the same time. Sadness was in there deep and the funny moment was at the surface. Loved it! Especially the part when Buffy threatened Spike with a cookware - I'd do exactly the same in that situation :D
Can't wait to see what that something was that destroyed their marriage and happiness... I won't even start to guess... It had to be painful though..

oh, and I love the summary :D

Good to see an update - and yes, the snake thing was fun.
But you made me curious what Spike missed - sounds like somebody died. First I thought it was Buffy's mother but it doesn't make sense for Spike's behavior - maybe a baby then when Buffy was pregnant?
