I know I may be biased, but I really like this start!

I just love this bit: “Summers,take a seat. You know you really don’t have to be so formal, especially with it being…” he glanced at his watch and sighed,“Damn, almost midnight.”

I can just picture it so clearly, and sounds like the noir novels of which I'm so fond!
