This was a vivid, exciting chapter. Spike's obsession grows and now he's dragged Dawn down with him. His anger and hysteria were awful to read. It's no wonder Dawn freaked. The eggs hatching was terrifying and exciting. Spike's claimed her, taken what he wants, and even that is not enough.
This broke my heart: "Borrowed time, that’s what this was, and he couldn’t enjoy a second because of that. He kept telling himself that he could make it under the wire, that one more paycheck would make all the difference, and she’d never even have to know about any of it. But he didn’t really believe that." Now Spike really has a reason for Buffy to hate him.

I love how you keep all of Spikes former William anxiety going even though he's no longer human. What always grabbed me the most about Spike on the show was his "reaking of humanity" and you always capture that.
I love the Spike and Dawn battle going back and forth, very much like a little sister getting in your face and pushing all your button and putting you on the spot. And I think the scene I liked the most was Buffy being worried about her friends and them just kinda wanting to slink off because of Spike now staying there. It's very post teen like behavior where you don't wanna face your responsibilities so you use any other excuse so you don't have to deal with real things. Of course Buffy doesn't want Spike to call them on it because she herself just wants everything east even though to keep things easy she's kinda screwing herself over in the process and letting her friends do it to her.
Spike is always the voice of honesty whether you wanna hear it or not he always puts the truth out there under your nose to smell it.
Author's Response: Even before we really knew who William was on the series, there was always that sensitivity lurking just underneath the surface of Spike's character. It's a really interesting contrast between him and Angelus because, as you said, Spike "reeks of humanity." Dawn and Spike have such a wonderful relationship; I was really angry with the writers on the show when they dropped that friendship because they thought it looked "inappropriate." I suppose I just like making up for their mistakes in this story. Thanks so much for the review!

I know I'm not known for my bright ideas, and judging by the protests of my back and neck, spending about 8 hours glued to the computer (okay, I took some necessary breaks) isn't one of 'em... But I finally managed to read all 61 chapters in one go!
And all I can say is: !!!!WOW!!!! This is indeed a wonderful, and addictive story! You weren't exxagerating the characters study prospect one bit... But, as I happen to like examining the heads of the characters anyway... this is just the kind of story for me!!!

Spike does seem half crazied either from fear or hunger and hes not thinking clearly which sort is but isnt Buffy fault everybody needs to open up a little and be honest but now with Dawn getting sliced open I dont see that happening cause Buffy always reacts first and thingks second most time.

Dawn fought very hard for giving Spike a chance to stay. He didn't like it one bit.
Oh my, what a roller coaster for Spike. He was almost crazy (hysterical), not having feed properly too. (I don't have a better word for his state of mind.
And then all went wrong. For now the worst is stopped (the eggs won't hurt) but the eggs still can cause hurt. Because Buffy won't take it well that Dawn is hurt. I hope she won't accuse without listening to what happened.
Spike will feel bad enough without it.
Author's Response: Oh, Buffy will definitely not be happy when she finds out what happened, but now that Dawn is injured, there is no way Spike can conceal what he's been doing. Thanks so much for the review!

I truly feel sorry for Spike for he's just so low right now. Since that time he saw Angel comforting Buffy after she came back he has had no footing with her on what to expect. In the past when they were together he was still a man and she was in his home and he felt he had some control cause he was the master of the house and she was a nurse to his mother. But here in now time he's a ex-killer, been sexually attacked by Angel, been a fighter, and learned she knew all along what was gonna happen to him and did have a relationship with him anyways. Spike has no idea where he fits in and he's almost reduced to being a begger for her affections and she really has not said to him where he fits into her life. KInda bugged me she was looking into taking a class when so many other things are going on underneith her nose.

The ring she kept but won't wear
Spike falling apart
Buffy being amused by his puppy love of her
And shes looking at a class? Girl please! Wake up and smell the smoke cause your house is on fire!!!
Now Dawn has gone off and got herself into trouble and Spike will be blamed and then will come a game of kick the Spike. Come on Buffy surprise me!!!!!
Author's Response: You bring up an excellent point about Angel being the root of Spike's insecurity. His self-esteem not being the healthiest to begin with, he's also had to live through an incredible amount of trauma in his long life. The repeated lack of control - the loss of Elizabeth, the rape, Buffy's betrayal, etc - has made his confidence plummet even more. And although he acts tough, underneath, you know he's bleeding. At least, this is what I was hoping to get across to readers. I'm glad that you let me know I succeeded. Thank you!

My heart for Spike just is all achy and now this attack on Dawn and Giles knowing about the money. I think I better start rubbing a rabbits foot and praying to the powers that be that they all pull through this one and their love will survive.
This will be a huge wake up call for Spike I just hope its not too late for them.
