Don't you think they have suffered enough. I don't know what is worse the actual tortue or the money problems. I will choose the money problems. They seem to come together when they are tortured but money can and will tear families apart. Please let there be a solution. I swear your muse is diabolical. Great writing.

Author's Response: Hi Bridget! Well, apparently my muse doesn't think he's tortured them sufficiently ... Spike has some ideas - Buffy won't like them. We'll see what happens! Thanks so much for reading and stopping in! We'll have some lighter chapters soon, despite the money issues still hanging over their heads for a while longer ... then back to the angst. Why did I stop reading this, sometimes I am so silly.
Poor Buffy and Spike. I can see both of their points, but I have to agree with Buffy. If they have one less bill (and food has to be a big one) maybe they have a better shot of catching or at least stop falling.

Author's Response: Hi gopher101! I don't know ... sometimes I think my muse's penchant for angst gets the best of some people - he does like to torture our heroes ... Glad you'e back! I have to agree with Buffy, too - Spike's trying to be all things to everyone and it's just too much ... which Buffy is getting ready to point out to him very soon. Thanks so much for coming back! I've decided since your muse obviously doesn't have a soul I'm going to ask Willow to curse him with one. I think the poofy wanker should give back some of the money he took, don't you? Thanks for the update. More soon please.

Author's Response: LOL! Hi Melly! You could be right about the soul thing ... or he just likes to make me cry, one or the other (or both!). Better make sure the 'happiness clause' is off the curse, otherwise our Spuffy couple may never get to make up! Thanks so much for stopping in! Love hearing from you! -p4s 2011.12.14

The financial apocalypse is shaking the foundation of their home out from under their feet. The mansion is pretty much termites holding hands together, one good sneeze and the whole house of cards comes tumbling down around them. For all the good that Spike and Buffy have done by keeping the demons from taking over the town, you’d think that they could be paid back by the town folk by having the local contractors fix their home; the retailers replace the damaged furniture and waive the debt of the appliances. The bank (evil Inc. next to Wolfram and Hart) could grow a heart and lower their interest rate while at the same time help establish a collection to help pay off their debts. But that only happens in a perfect world where everyone knows of demons and slayers get treated with celebrity status and perks to keep their town safe. Things are looking so bad, that the Weckerly’s may end up moving into the blue bomber to live in or take up residence in a crypt while they file for bankruptcy. Hands your muse a couple of bucks to start a fund to help the family get back on its financial feet.

Author's Response: Hi Vette! My muse is happy to take your pretty green money - ta ever so! heehee! Yeah, it would be nice if they could be treated like rock stars or heroes and get special treatment - heck, they don't even get a discount at Denny's! At least the bank did give Buffy the loan ... better than not being able to fix the house at all. Hopefully one or both of them will have some ideas to get them out of this pit of debt. A very difficult thing to manage... {hugs} -p4s 2011.12.14

Author's Response: LOL! Well ... I guess anything's possible, but I think it's just life. In my experience, when things starting going to hell ... they just keep piling up, one thing after another, it seems. It seems like Bess is on a roadtrip to find herself. She probably needs to be free and try to find out who she is now and what she wants.

Wonderful talking between Buffy and Annie.

Author's Response: Hi Magnus! Glad you liked the talk ... I think Buffy handled it very well and left Annie feeling comfortable with the whole subject. Nicely done. Buffy's talk with Annie was well done. Nothing like throwing down the gauntlet with Spike. Of course he could do that position. The book of positions was really interesting.

Author's Response: Hi Bridget! Glad you enjoyed Buffy's talk. I actually think Annie having the basic stuff from Anya, along with the book, kinda helped her cover some things that were just as important and break the ice. Yeah, Spike can resist anything but a dare! heehee! Of course he could do it ... LOL! That book has some really mind boggling suggestions in it - seriously? The reality of Bess slipping through their fingers and out in the world has really impacted Spike and Buffy, their children no matter how much they love them, ultimately will be on their own one day and the best they can do is to prepare them for whatever the world may throw at them. The talk Buffy had with Annie was therapeutic as well as terrifying for her, the mere idea that Annie may be unprepared for “life experiences” and make the wrong choices is not something Buffy wants to be responsible for. Hard as they may try, their children will not always be sheltered from harsh realities and may have their hearts broken or even put in harm’s way as Annie was when she was abducted. All they can do is be “a safe haven” for their children to come to when they are hurting or are in trouble. Bess doesn’t consider them her “safe haven” and on her journey to face her past human life, she may come to terms with the fact that her previous life is gone and she will have to put it to rest to accept her new chance at a better one with her real parents. Spike may accept the fact that he cannot force Bess to be in their lives but that doesn’t mean he has to like it the best they can do at the moment is to give Bess her space. Spike, Buffy and Bess were tortured by the watchers and the behavior that Bess is exhibiting is her opening up the flood gates of her humanity again. They all have been emotionally scarred and Bess has not had the emotional support of others to fall back on. The love that she has been shown is hard to accept because she has yet to love herself first. Hope she gets to say goodbye to her old family in her heart during her journey to her past and understand that no matter how flawed and patronizing she may view Spike and Buffy, that they are better than not having anyone at all in her life. All her parents were trying to do was to make things “normal” again during all their stress and worrying about finances. Hope that she reflects on her circumstances and even though she felt abandoned and hopeless before, that when it came down to finding about her imprisonment, they dropped everything and left their loved ones behind to rescue her at considerable risk and pain. When all others turn you away, your family will always welcome you back with open arms and hearts. Let Bess know through Billy’s dreams that her family misses her and prays for her safe return. Hope that your muse has “it’s a wonderful life” moment and give us a Christmas miracle to smile about before he goes back to being the Grinch. BTW, the illustrated sex positions were interestingly funny yet curiously sadistic and challenging!

Author's Response: Well crap! I replied and suddenly SR wants me to sign in and lost it all! grrrrr .... Ok, try agan! Hi Vette! LOL! You are very right, Spuffy got a big wake up call and they need to realize that they can't shelter the kids forever, no matter how much they'd like to. They definately need to see that Annie is growing up and treat her that way; easier for Buffy to do than Spike, I'm afraid. She, in particular, will always be 'his little girl' even more than the others I think. I will try to make my muse find some Chirstmas spirit and not be so evil ... but it won't be easy. We will catch up with Bess and see what all she's been through and how she's coping with her journey of discovery, but first a few chapters in SunnyD. I love your reviews, always so in depth and insightful. You are absolutely right, some of those moves (and yes, I picked some of the hardest ones, although there are even more that had me scratching my head .. huh? Is it worth that much work?) in that book of positions are quite challenging! Who does that? Apparently Slayers and Vamps! heehee! Thanks soooo much! Love hearing from you! -p4s 2011.12.09

Well they have been a bit naive about how hard it would be make this situation work. They needed to talk more to Bess about what she wants and how she sees her situation, but with money problem and the council there haven't been that much time.
From Bess point of view would working as a whore seem like a good idea. In a way it's what she's been doing in the dungeon and she's used to that. This situation will take time to deal with. First they have to find her, she could have gone to Troy if she know where he lives or mayby to Faith or just driving around. Anyway about the gem, in a Spike comic during Angel season 5 did they find out there where two rings in the treasure. I remember that Harmony sold the other one to buy a pair of boots.

Author's Response: Hi Magnus! Yes, I agree, Buffy and Spike were trying to make things 'normal' for her and she just felt like they were trying to mold her into something she couldn't be - or something she wasn't ready for. Hopefully she can come to terms with everything and accept what they were trying to do for what it was - love, not imprisionment. I've never read the comics, but someone mentioned that before (a long time ago when they found the first ring) about being another ring and Harmony finding it and selling it, so I'm going with the theory that there is another ring. Perhaps one of Marcus' minions found it in the crypt, stole it, but didn't realize what it was and it's just floating around somewhere waiting to be found - or bought on ebay (probably not on ebay, actually)... Thanks so much for the review! Always love hearing from you!! -p4s 2011.12.09

Buffy and Spike are trying so hard to make Bess “fit in” to her new found life and freedom that they forgot to ask her what she wants. In trying to mold Bess into what is expected of a “normal” teenager, they have over-whelmed Bess and pushed her into becoming secretive turning to sexual favors to rebel against their imposed rules. Obviously, making money the oldest and easiest way must be liberating for her giving her the hope of being independent as quick as possible so as to not be a burden as she believes she is. She is still in the dungeon in her own mind, using her survival skills of sexual favors to empower herself to get what she wants. Emotionally, she needs help, money may be tight (not for Bess at the moment) but she really needs counseling as a rape victim to help build up her esteem and sense of worth. Bess is unique, a turned slayer who is being treated as a child but has lived the experiences of an adult with the mentally of a juvenile. The money she is getting must be to “divorce” herself from the family that loves her and is sacrificing for her. Obviously, she doesn’t see Buffy and Spike as making sacrifices for her, but views them as tyrants who want to dictate her every choice and is missing her lost family. Even though she is an adult, she is hurting like a child pushing away from those that love her. In my own opinion, a spell to have Bess, Buffy and Spike journey through each other’s mind to experience all that they have experience and have in common through their suffering and trials and tribulations can be a good way to convince Bess that she is with her real mother and father and appreciate her “second chance” of what was taken from her. The sorrow, grief, hopelessness, joy, love and devotion is a trial by fire that they all have in common. Bess must love her new family like the phrase “you only hurt the ones who love you” - if her family didn’t really love her, they wouldn’t care about what she is doing. Your muse is evil!

Author's Response: Hi Vette!! I agree completely, she really needed counseling right from the start, I think Buffy and Spike just thought their love and trying to give her 'normality' would fix everything. Tara is child psychologist and, although far away, perhaps could help in some way or at least reccommend some things they should do or someone local they could talk to or take her to. I just don't think they thought of it. They always 'just deal' ... get over it, support each other and handle it, but she doesn't trust anyone enough to open up like that and she's feeling repressed by their rules. Also, by them imposing those rules, they're showing her how much they love her, which is just as frightening for her as anything she faced in the dungeon. Love = loss. Love = pain. Running is the only way to avoid the pain of being discarded again. Love your reviews! Very insightful! Thanks so much! -p4s 2011.12.09

I really hate that they have to go through some hard times but that is life. But I really love their family. Spike is a really good Dad. Buffy is a good Mom but Spike seems more in tune with his children.

Author's Response: Hi Bridget! Yeah, sometimes it's the 'mundane' things that can be the hardest to endure ... we'll see how our Spuffy couple does. I think Spike has always had a 'sixth sense' and definately has it with the kids. Although Buffy loves them all just as much, like most moms, I think she has to be the 'bad guy' more, which can dampen the relationship a bit. You'll see her building more bridges, esp with Annie, later in this story and my muse has an idea for a Buffy/Annie centric adventure for later, too. The family reunion went rather well, the way that Spike and Buffy make their kids feel special is great and considering that there are more girls than boys, then it is a good thing that JJ is part of the second generation Scooby gang cause the way the Weckerly’s are going with their increasing brood, they may need to move into one of the abandoned warehouses in Sunnydale. Money may be the next apocalypse they may face now that the bunnies ate Buffy’s “get-by garden”. Spike may have to ask Xander for a job at the construction site as maybe a night watchman and Buffy may need to work for Anya. Short of starting their own Funeral Business which would really be good to head-off burying bodies in the cemetery that come back as vampires, their job choices are really limited. Bess thank goodness is not yet asking for a car, but eventually she’ll have to learn how to drive and get her license. How are they dealing with her citizenship? She’ll need to have proper paperwork to not be deported back to the mother country as well as convincing society that she is younger than she really is. Your muse must have cooties in the brain to write about evil bunnies!

Author's Response: Hey Vette! If you've ever had a garden eaten by Bunnies, you'd know that Anya is right! Evil! LOL! Unfortunately, Spike can't get a job from Xander 'cos Xander's been out of work himself - filling in as a bartender at the Bronze and doing odd jobs; construction co he was working for closed with the downturn in the economy and he's been unable to get another one. (that was from the last story I believe). Bess will be wanting to learn to drive soon - and Spike promised to teach her. We'll see how that goes shortly. For Bess' citizenship, Willow created a false birth certificate (US) and hacked into the State dept to create her a passport, so Bess is, officially, an american citizen. And yes, the next apocolypse bringing Big Bad will be money ... Giles already told Buffy that he couldn't afford to employ both her and Anya full time ... The financial stress is going to be building with a new baby and a new teen in the house ... and, of course, my evil muse will rain other 'horsemen' down on them, as well. The funeral home idea is a good one tho!! Killing two birds with one stone! Will have more soon! Thanks so much! -p4s 2011.12.1

Thanks for the frequent updates.

Author's Response: Hi Bridget! I'm glad you've enjoyed the story so far and I'm glad you ilke Bess. I like her too ... I wasn't sure when I started this how my muse was giong to write her, I actually expected more 'soulless vamp' than what we ended up with, which is a pretty confused girl who's not quite sure of her place in the world. More things to move then, but they will probably find something good there. but is there a place big enough in Sunnydale for them? And placing the headquarter of a global organization at a high risk small town doesn't make sense. The prices will be low of course but one of the great citys would have been a more logical place for a move.↲ ↲
Some awkwardnes with Bess, they never thought about that but she has a point. The talking Spike had with her was a good one.

Author's Response: Hi Magnus! You make a good point about it noting being a very secure place to move ... but, maybe they can have Willow or the Coven in Canada put some wards on the place to try and keep it more safe. There are some old warehoue districts on the outskirts of town - Buffy and Faith will try to find one that's large enough and cheap enough to house everything that needs to be moved while Giles and Wes stay in London for now. Bess is definately testing her newfound wings of freedom ... we'll find out how far she can fly later and how B/S deal with having a teenager who's live a century in the house. Thanks for the reivew ... sorry you hate moving the Council to SunnyD - it would be hard for Buffy, Spike and Giles and Bess to be involved with it if it were elsewhere, I'm afraid. Perhaps later they can turn their mantle over to others and it could move somewhere perhaps safer. - Thanks again! Love hearing from you! p4s 2011.11.27

Haven't solved all the problems but each little step helps. Update soon.

Author's Response: Hi BuffyRat! I think that Bess is testing out her wings with her new freedom and trying to see just what works and what doesn't ... She's very much caught between a child and an adult - wanting approval and security of a family, but also wanting her freedom.
