I read this a long time ago, but it was on the 'Top Ten Most Read Stories,' and I definitely know how it could be there. Feeling and depth are only two words to describe it. I would recommend this fic to anyone.
Summary: Buffy Summers is a So. Carolina Plantation mistress. Actually, her husband Riley Finn is, but he's away at the Revolutionary War...
Spike (Lord William) Anderson is now a Captain in his Majesty's Army.
Through flashbacks and in the present, these two star crossed lovers (Spike/Buffy) will meet again in 1778 So. Carolina.

I loved this story immensely. I was hooked from the first chapter and read all the way to the ending. What a fantastic journey! I am a huge fan of all historical romances, and this had a special appeal for me.
William's temper was very entertaining to watch, and his anger towards Buffy's disregard for his feelings back in the past helped fuel his ruthlessness as a military officer. Liked the relationships intertwined throughout - it was saddening to see Fred and Gunn's hopeless romance, but the introduction of Jesse and Mahalia were extremely loveable and refreshing. It angered me to know that she had stood him up several times in Boston, but since it was revealed that she was going to in the end, I was pacified. Xander coming clean about his part in destroying what they thought was thier last chance was forgiveable, given the explanation. He only had their best interests at heart. How was he to know Hank was just as bad as Riley.
To see Ethan as a redeeming character was original. I was scared once I saw Caleb was the other local minister that he would show up and be all fire, brimstone and downright evil. Glad to know he was just a passing mention.
Glad to see that William was going to face his punishment, it made me certain that he was a man of great character. Buffy was a strong and independent individual, especially for that part of history. The twins were a nice addition, too!

Got ahold of your story by hitting the random story link. Can I say 'Wow!' Spike and all of his fears and emotions are hopefully going to be liberated by one slayer's determination to get him back. The courage of Andrew, the vileness of Giles, and finally the unconditional love that Buffy is showing, they're all characters working together making a very interesting story.
I can see you haven't worked on this in a while, and I am putting in my plea for you to continue. It has been a very emotional ride, but it isn't over yet! Ethan had to know she was there, and Giles' "memory loss" should get Willow on the right track.

Thank God for Colonel Monroe! Buffy should beat Quentin Travers, (literally) when she gets back. I never suspected it was Lilah! I don't know if there were clues before, but that one threw me for a loop. Personally, maybe Buffy went too far with her punishment, but she had some justification for being so angry. Wondering if Angel has realized the relationship changing between Spike and Buffy yet. I think he has proven himself to be a coward in this chapter when he recoiled from Buffy's attack on Lilah. Here's to hoping Spike can help Buffy with her emotions (well, duh! LOL.)

Love the way you made it an alternate dimension to explain the differences between Twilight's vampires and Buffy's vampires. The culmination of the battle on Buffy's world was saddening, but necessary for your storyline. I am looking forward to more of this!
